What’s your dream career?

I hate questions like this. This and “what do you think you’ll be doing in five years?” There is no set career path for anyone anymore – anything can change at any second. Most changes turn out well eventually so there is no reason to define a career path. You never know what’s going to come up and change your path completely.
When I was a kid, someone told me that it was very likely that the job I would do as an adult wasn’t even invented yet. In one way, the fear of the unknown scared me, but at the same time I was intrigued because it meant that the possibilities were endless. I didn’t have to commit to knowing exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, cuz it probably didn’t even exist yet!
Ultimately, my dream career allows me to be creative and learn and use new skills. I want my skills and expertise to be respected and taken into consideration when I am asked to do something. I want to work with people I get along with and who are willing to help out when things get tough, and of course, I will return the favour to them when they need it. I want to be able to laugh with the people I work with. My dream career insists that I leave at the end of the day without feeling guilty for not getting 15 hours of work completed in a 7.5 hour day. My career knows that I am human and that I make mistakes, but that I am willing to take responsibility for them and more importantly, learn how to not make that mistake again.
My dream career allows me to say “no that’s not possible” when it really isn’t possible due to time or budget constraints, or constraints that indicate that the requestor has no idea what they are asking for. My dream career encourages me to come up with new ideas to try and make those things become possible.
My dream career is aware that there is so much more to my life than my career.
